Englishtown, New Jersey
Wilkerson’s not going to change a thing for E-town
Englishtown,
Prerace: Funny Car points leader, Tim Wilkerson has a good
car right now. His beautiful Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet
Impala SS has been responding to his tuning decisions and
is the hot rod to beat. So, being the smart man he is,
Wilkerson is not going to change anything for this weekend’s
Lucas Oil Supernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park.
And why would Wilkerson
try to upset the apple cart? When you are at the top you
certainly want to
stay there
and that
is Wilk’s plan.
“We have a good car,” explained Wilkerson. “It’s
going down the track and that’s how we’re going
to keep winning rounds. And in order to stay on top or at
least in the Top 10 by Indy, we need to keep going rounds.
We’ve still got half-dozen races before Indy and anything
can happen. I won’t deny it, being No. 1 really feels
good and we don’t want to give it up. So, we can’t
be stupid. We want to keep our heads on straight and take
it one race at a time. So, we need to keep doing what we’ve
been doing and hope it keeps working.”
Wilkerson appears
to have an understanding of the Englishtown facility and
weather. He has qualified
every time he’s
raced the famed quarter-mile and gone rounds on race day.
If he can keep up the tradition this year, he should be able
to leave Old Bridge in the same position as he arrived.
